How Do Your Rights Change In School? One of the first assignments of this year was to create a mini project related to the fourth amendment. Students made projects on anything from your rights in moving vehicles to in school or even in your house. Our essential question for this project asked how we balance personal privacy with safety and protection. We began by looking at various scenarios and cases, determining the outcomes, and writing our own court rulings. We continued on to find a topic that interested us and focused on that for my project.
The topic that fascinated me was on how your rights outside of school change once you enter school campus. I actually did not find anything that was concrete because there is no specific way that your rights are changed at school. What I did find though, was that since school officials essentially take the place of your parents at school, your privacy rights are much more limited. The reason I decided to focus in on this topic was because it seems that a lot of students get pretty angry about stuff like this, and it is often because they are uninformed. The reason I made posters to hang in the hallways was to inform the student body about this. |
